The Original Series books

Here is a list of the original Star Trek novels published by Pocket Books. Most have a brief synopsis, the others I can't find at the moment and I can't remember them by name. I will get them for you, though, so beam in and check up on them now and then, or submit your own.

Kirk is called back into action by a mirror Spock, who blames all of the problems of his universe on Kirk.

Avenger, William Shatner
Captain Kirk is back, this time he must reconcile his past and help save the Federation.

The Return, William Shatner
Captain Kirk...Returns! Actually, it is a very good blending of the generations (TOS thru DS9)

The Ashes of Eden, William Shatner
Shatner's first attempt at a ST novel. It could be better, takes place shortly after Kirk retired and before his death.

Federation, Judith And Garfield Reeves Stevens
A good novel, but doesn't live up to expectations. The TOS and TNG ships meet, but not the crews.

Best Destiny, Diane Carey
How did Jim Kirk become one of the greatest captains in history? Read this pre-trek/post ST:VI book to find out.

Shadows on the Sun, Michael Jan Friedman
An alien threat returns, and only Mccoy is familiar with them and can stop them.

Probe, Margret Wander Bonanno
Intriguing sequal to ST:IV. Where is the whale probe from and what is it looking for?

Prime Directive, Judith and Garfeild Reeves Stevens

The Lost Years, J. M. Dillard
The true story about what happened after the original five year mission and before the first movie. Part 1 of 4.

ST IV: The Voyage Home, Vonda N. McIntyre
Based on fourth movie, about a time travel to 1986 to bring two whales to their century. Not as good as the movie.

ST V: The Final Frontier, J. M. Dillard
Based on the fifth movie, which has the Enterprise looking for God. The campfire scenes are much better in the book.

ST VI: The Undiscovered Country, J. M. Dillard
Based on the sixth movie. The Federation and the Klingon Empire may forge a peace treaty, or go to war.

Spock's World, Diane Duane
History of planet Vulcan, mixed with a Vulcan separatist movment in the 23rd century.

Enterprise: The First Mission, Vonda N. McIntyre
Captain Kirk's first mission on the Enterprise, along with eveyone else.

Strangers from the Sky, Margret Wander Bonanno
Here is the real first contact between humans and Vulcans.

Final Frontier, Diane Carey
The Enterprises first mission in space, before it was even named, with George Kirk (Jim's dad) as first officer.

Starfleet Academy, Diane Carey
A novel based on the Star Trek computer game.

1. ST: The Motion Picture, Gene Roddenberry
Based on the first movie and only novel written by the Great Bird. Kirk gets back the Enterprise to stop an alien force from destroying Earth.

2. The Entropy Effect, Vonda N. McIntyre
One of Spock's friends invents a time machine, but everytime it is used, The space-time continuum sufers.

3. The Klingon Gambit, Robert Vardman

Time is speeding up, and only the Enterprise can slow it down.

6. The Abode of Life, Lee Correy
The Enterprise needs repairs, but the only planet in around orbits an unstable sun. Their only hope is to stabilize it, but it could blow up in the process.

7. ST II: The Wrath of Kahn, Vonda N. McIntyre
Based on the second movie. Kirk's old nemesis Kahn (Space Seed) returns for revenge, Spock saves the Enterprise, but at great cost.

8. Black Fire, Sonni Cooper
Spock leaves the Enterprise and becomes a pirate.

9. Triangle, Sondra Marshak & Myrna Culbreath
Kirk and Spock fall for the same woman, with two collectives trying to absorb all of them.

10. Web of the Romulans, M. S. Murdock

11. Yesterday's Son, A. C. Crispin
Spock and Zarabeth had a son in the Sarpeidon Ice Age (All Our Yesterday's). Now Spock must go back and get him.

12. Mutiny on the Enterprise, Robert E. Vardman
A pacifist movement takes over the Enterprise, now no crew members will do anything that might cause harm to others. Meanwhile, two planets are about to go to war.

13. The Wounded Sky, Diane Duane
A new warp drive tears the very fabric of space, but can it be repaired?

14. The Trellisane Confrontation, David Dvorkin
An alien attack on a remote planet nearly leads to interstellar war between the Federation, the Klingons, and the Romulans.

15. Corona, Greg Beart
A sentient star takes over the minds of some Vulcan children and tries to recreate the Big Bang.

16. The Final Reflection, John M. Ford
The story of the first meeting between humans and the Klingons.

17. ST: The Search for Spock, Vonda N. McIntyre
Based on the third movie. The crew reunites and steals the Enterprise to find Spock, who is dead, for now.

18. My Enemy, My Ally, Diane Duane
When Romulans kidnap Vulcans for scientific study, a Romulan commander feels that the Empire has lost all of its honor, so she teams up with Kirk to stop them.

19. The Tears of the Singers, Melinda Snodgrass
Upon death, the seal-like inhabitants of this planet excrete tears that turn into valuable gems, so they car killed deliberatly. But this affects their song, and an anomaly opens up nearby.

20. The Vulcan Academy Murders, Jean Lorah
Spock's mother is undergoing treatment to lengthen her life, along with others, but it is a very delicate proess, and someone is trying to prevent that process from reaching completion.

21. Uhura's Song, Janet Kagen
A disease ravages a planet and the only hope lies in a song and its translation.

22. Shadow Lord, Lawrence Yep
Spock and Sulu help a young prince prepare for his throne.

23. Ishmael, Barbara Hambly
Spock goes back in time and lives in the wild west.

A crew of cadets must help the Enterprise keep a powerful weapon out of the wrong hands.

An ancient evil returns to the galaxy, and only Spock can stop it.

31. Battlestations!, Diane Carey
The Dreadnaught crew returns to stop a scientist from selling an experimental engine to the highest bidder.

32. Chain of Attack, Gene DeWeese
The Enterprise discovers some interesting gateways traveling across the galaxy, but can they get home?

33. Deep Domain, Howard Weinstein
One author's alternative storyline for ST IV. This also has to deal with whales, but on another planet and without time travel.

McCoy is sent into Romulan space to determine if a Federation spy has changed loyalties.

36. How much for just the planet?, John M. Ford
With the Organian treaty in effect, violence is no longer an option for acquiring new planets, so money can be used. Note: contains the greatest Federation/Klingon battle in history.

37. Bloodthirst, J. M. Dillard
The Enterprise visits a remote space reasearch station, where a mysterious murderer is on the loose.

38. The IDIC Epidemic, Jean Lorah
A plague ravages a planet, and the only solution can be found in Klingon blood.

39. Time for Yesterday, A. C. Crispin
Spock's son returns, and he gets the Enterprise crew's help in a critical battle in the past.

40. Time Trap, David Dvorkin
Capt. Kirk finds himself in the future helping the Klingons, with the blessing of the Organians, but things are not what they seem.

41. The Three-Minute Universe, Barbara Paul
A doorway is opened to another universe, and the only way to stop it lies in the hands of aliens, who kidnap Kirk, Uhura, Chekov, and Scotty because they don't know how to run their ship.

42. Memory Prime, Gar & Judith Reeves Stevens
The Federations's greatest scientists are the target of an assasine, and Spock must travel into cyberspace to stop him.

43. The Final Nexus, Gene DeWeese
The gateways discovered in Chain of Attack are breaking down, and they are taking planets with them.

Capt. Pike and a young Spock must discover the true whereabouts of a precious Vulcan jewel.

The children found by the Enterprise crew in the episode Miri are having a hard time adjusting to their new surroundings.

47. The Kobiashi Maru, Judith Ecklar
Kirk, Scotty, Sulu, and Chekov are caught in a disabled shuttle. To pass the time, they tell stories about their Kobiashi Maru tests.

48. Rules of Engagement, Peter Morwood
The Horta have joined the Federation, and Kirk needs their help when the Klingons form a shaky alliance to battle a common enemy.

49. The Pandora Principle, Carolyn Clowes
Lt. Saavik must return to the place of her birth to face a threat to the Federation.

50. Doctor's Orders, Diane Duane
McCoy gets on Kirk's nerves on too many times, so Kirk gives command to Bones while orbiting a peaceful planet. All is well until Kirk disappears and the Klingons and Orions show up.

51. Enemy Unseen, V. E. Mitchell
An invisible monster is loose on the Enterprise, and it is kiling everyone in sight.

52. Home is the Hunter, Dana Kramer-Rolls
Scotty, Chekov, and Sulu are sent back to the most dangerous time periods in thier cultural history. Meanwhile, Uhura annoys the shirts off some Klingons.

53. Ghost Walker, Barbara Hambly
A "ghost" is loose on the Enterprise, causing destruction and deaths, but that "ghost" may not be what it seems.

Excellent book if not familiar with ST, good book otherwise. A scientist traps the Enterprise in an alternate timelines.

65. Windows on a Lost World, V. E. Mitchell
Mysterious windows, roughly similar to the Guardian of Forever, capture several crew members on another planet.

66. From the Depths, Victor Milan
Kirk is framed for the destruction of a floating city, which leaves the natives preferring klingon rule over the Federation.

67. The Great Starship Race, Diane Carey
The Enterprise enters a race among several starships, but someone is out to sabatage the ships, including the Enterprise.

68. Firestorm, L. A. Graf
The Elasians are back. this time they are trying to keep their new mining facility, which is located beside the largest known volcano, and its ready to erupt.

69. The Patrian Transgression, Simon Hawk
The crew of the Enterprise are arrested--for their thoughts, which are illegal.

70. Traitor Winds, L. A. Graf
The story about what happeed between the end of the original misson and the first movie. Part 3 of 4.

71. Crossroad, Barbara Hambly
Freedom fighters from the future return to ask for Kirk's help.

72. The Better Man, Howard Weinstein
McCoy discovers that an old relationship produced an offspring, on a planet who hates non-natives.
